Police have arrested a second person in connection with a burglary and shooting in Troy on Dec. 11.
Calvin Eummanuel Wheeler, of Brundidge, was arrested Thursday. Myron Jermaine Flowers, of Troy, was arrested for the same crime on Dec. 18.
Police report they believe Wheeler and Flowers broke into an apartment in the 500 block of Gibbs Street and were at the residence when a Troy University student returned home.
The two intruders – wearing all black and ski masks – got into a physical altercation with the 23-year-old student and his visiting 26-year-old cousin. The 26-year-old was shot once in the face and once in the abdomen during the struggle. The intruders fled the scene on foot in the direction of a residential area.
The injured man was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for what police reported were non-life threatening injuries. The university student was uninjured.
Investigators recovered one firearm and other evidence from the crime scene.
Flowers’ total bond was set at $110,000 and the total bond on Wheeler’s charges is $160,000.
Wheeler was out on probation for a second-degree assault that happened in 2009.
