Edith Folmar Young

Edith Folmar Young died peacefully at age 91 in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 7, 2013. She was a 40-year resident of Severna Park, MD. She was born in Goshen, AL on May 19, 1921, the daughter of Kate Flowers Folmar and Wilson Duncan Folmar. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts and Science, majoring in sociology and English. After graduation, she worked in Mobile, AL for the Social Welfare Department before she married Daniel A. Young (deceased) in 1946 and moved to Grand Island, NY. They also lived in the Town of Tonawanda, NY and Charlotte, NC before moving to Severna Park, MD in 1967.

Edith started Welcome Wagon, Inc. in the Severna Park area, and she volunteered with that organization for many years. She was an active member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1967 where she served as a deacon and an elder, and also served as a volunteer for the church’s “Meals on Wheels” program for over 20 years. She was active in the “Hilltoppers” senior group. She was also an active member of the West Severna Park Association, the Wednesday Bridge Club of West Severna Park and the American Association of University Women for many years. Her hobbies included sailing, bridge and reading. Edith is survived by her three children: Miranda Fitzgerald of Orlando, FL; Daniel A. Young, Jr. of Severna Park, MD; and Susan McKenzie of Cincinnati, OH and her three grandchildren: Beth Young of Severna Park, MD, Kate McKenzie of Lexington, KY and Will McKenzie of Cincinnati, OH. Memorial Service to be held at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, Severna Park, Maryland at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 4, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church.
