Former CHHS hoops star recognized at Alabama State

Alabama State men’s tennis player Alexis Pierre and women’s basketball player Erica Henderson have been named Alabama State University Student-Athletes of The Month.

Henderson, a senior physical education major from Troy, Ala., has a 3.681 GPA.

She sat on the panel discussion titled “How to be a Successful Student” for incoming student-athletes this past summer, and is looking to attend graduate school. Henderson scored a career-high 18 points in the Lady Hornets’ win over Jackson State in January.

“I was very, very excited when it came out that I was named Student Athelete of the Month at ASU,” said Henderson.

“I was a little shocked, but very happy that all those years of hard work finally paid off.”

Henderson was named Pike County Player of the Year , All-State Second Team, Charles Henderson Most Valuable Player and to numerous tournament teamsduring her high school career.

She was also named to the AAU All-Academic team, and was awarded for having the highest GPA during her days at Charles Henderson High School.

Over the course of her Lady Trojan career, Henderson averaged 22 points , six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game.

Among the criteria used to select winners, Alabama State student athletes must either be achieving or surpassing expectations in the classroom, and show leadership andor success in their area of competition.
