Troy women down MTSU
Troy knocked off the Sun Belt Conference’s top women’s team, Middle Tennessee State, on Sunday, 74-70, in overtime in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The win snaps Middle Tennessee’s 12-game winning streak and hands the Trojans their first-ever victory over the Blue Raiders. Troy was 0-16 all-time against MTSU coming into the contest. It also marked the first Trojan road win since Feb. 27, 2010 against Arkansas State.
Troy took Middle Tennessee State to overtime at Sartain Hall in Troy last season, but ultimately fell, 72-66.
The Trojans (5-18, 2-12 Sun Belt) were led by junior Joanna Harden with 27 points and four assists.
Troy led by 12 at halftime and survived a furious Blue Raider comeback in the second half that saw the Trojan lead cut to just one, 49-48, with 11:51 to play in regulation.
Middle Tennessee falls to 18-6, 13-2 in Sun Belt play and suffers just its second home loss in the last five seasons.
Troy will host Florida International on Feb. 14 at 5:15 p.m.
