Troopers identify drivers involved in Wednesday crash

Alabama State Troopers have yet to identify the cause of a traffic accident that occurred Wednesday evening at the intersection of U.S. Highways 167 and 87 in Spring Hill. The accident involved a passenger car and an 18 wheeler.

Trooper Kevin Cook said that the driver of the passenger car, Virginia Richburg of Goshen, was transported from the scene in a helicopter with non-life threatening injuries. The 18-wheeler was a 2008 Freightliner driven by Joseph Brown of Green Cove Springs, Fla.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and details will be released when they become available.

The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday near Ward’s Grocery in the Spring Hill community. The woman appeared to be driving north on 167 and the driver of the truck was traveling north on 87 when the collision took place.

The woman was trapped in her white Chevrolet Impala underneath a Walmart truck headed for the Walmart Distribution Center in Brundidge.

The Springhill Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, along with the Troy Police Department, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County Fire and Rescue, Brundidge Fire Department and Alabama State Troopers.
