Police search for armed robbers

Police are searching for three armed robbers who took items from a 20-year-old Troy University Student about 7:40 Monday night.

“We are looking for three black males and we believe them to be from the local community,” said Troy University Police Chief John McCall. “We are trying to identify those subjects, right now.”

The victim reported the robbery happened near Alumni Hall and that the three men were in their late teens or early 20s.

“We have sent an email out to our students encouraging them to be extra vigilant at this time,” McCall said.

Police aren’t certain what sort of weapons the trio of suspects might have.

Beginning Tuesday, the university and University Police implemented a way to text tips to police. Text messages may be sent to 50911 with “trojantip” and a message for police.

“This will be a permanent feature,” McCall said. “It’s part of our SOS system and another way that students can communicate with police.”

Troy University Police and the Troy Police Department are investigating the robbery.
