Emma Russell “Russ” Green

Emma Russell “Russ” Green passed away January 22, 2013. She was born in Butler County, AL May 4, 1923 to Nolan and Bettie Helms. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, the late Gam Green, brothers Nolan Helms, Jr., Frank Helms, and sisters, Alice Claire Butler, Betty Lane Ivey, Lee McNeese and Jane Marie Garner. She is survived by sons, Carey (Judy) Green, Perry (Dot) Green, Dewey Green, Johnny (Mary Beth) Green, “adopted son” Luciano Silvestri of Padova, Italy, brothers, Joe Ed (Susan) Helms, John Alvin (Pam) Helms, brother-in-law, Pat (Sandy) Garner and sister-in-law, Cathrine Helms, eight grandchildren, Andrea Griffith (Trent), Robin Amesbury (Chris), Trey Green (Ashleigh), Heather Bunn (Michael), Mary Ivy Cost (Brian), David Russell Green (Lindsay), Mary Kathryn Rhodes (Aaron), Taylor Green and 16 great-grandchildren.
Russ graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery, AL and attended Huntingdon College until her marriage to Gam Green of Troy in 1945. She was a partner with her husband in the day to day operation of Green’s Drug Store. Russ was active in the Troy Charity League, City Recreation Department and the PTA of Troy City Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy for over 50 yearsyears where she was a Sunday school teacher, Training Union teacher, leader in the WMU and Sunday school director. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Old Lebanon Baptist Church in her retirement years.
The pallbearers will be Taylor Green, Aaron Rhodes, Trey Green, Chris Amesbury, David Green, Brian Cost, Michael Bunn and Perry Bunn.
Visitation is at Dillard Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday January 24. The funeral is Friday at 2:00 pm on Friday January 25 at the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial following at Green Hills Cemetery.
