CHHS boys roll behind Tyler Mitchell’s 31 points

Charles Henderson boy’s and girl’s basketball teams improved to 4-0 in area play on Friday with convincing wins over Headland at Wagoner Hall.
The girls destroyed Headland, 53-16.
For Charles Henderson, Taj Brundidge led all scorers with 11 points. Joyia Porter and India Blakely scored 10 each while Alexis Jones added seven.
The Trojans build and huge 35-5 halftime lead and never looked back.
The boys squad had to fight a little harder to put off the victory, but did so with a late surge.
Charles Henderson led by just three heading into the final quarter, but Tyler Mitchell scored 11 points in the frame to help the Trojans pull away.
Mitchell finished the game with a game-high 31 points.
The win lifts the boys team to 4-0 in area play and 12-5 overall.
Charles Henderson fell behind early in the contest.
Down 16-9, Reilly Fox drained a three-pointer and Devonte Jordan, who finished the game with 13 points, followed quickly wiht another.
Mitchell’s lay-in with 4:54 I the half gave Charles Henderson nits first lead of the game and the only one it needed.
The Rams made it interesting down the stretch. Headland closed the gap to three points on two separate occations in the second half.
The first came late in the third quarter when Headland made good from deep to make it 43-40 contest in favor of the Trojans. Then again to begin the fourth quarter with another three which made the score 45-42.
Jhakendal Johnson chipped in with 13 points for the Trojans as Charles Henderson never relinquished the lead.
Charles Henderson will travel to Dothen tonight to take on Northview High School.
The Trojans will then again head south next week when they play Ashford on Tuesday.
