This is a big pick up for the tennis team. It will be interesting to see how much he can add to the team.
The Troy men’s tennis team and head coach Eric Hayes have announced the addition of transfer Danny Riggs to next year’s squad.
Riggs, a highly touted recruit out of high school, comes to Troy after spending one season at Cornell. He will be eligible to play in the Fall of 2013 with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Riggs, the grandson of former world champion Bobby Riggs, posted a total singles record of 16-16 in 2011-12, his one season at Cornell, including a 10-14 mark in dual matches.
The Pompano Beach, Fla., native was tabbed a blue-chip recruit with a five-star rating by the Tennis Recruiting Network coming out of high school in 2011. He ranked as high as 19th in the USTA Boys’ 18 rankings.
Riggs won the 2010 high school doubles championship at Pompano Beach High School, and also won the National Team title with Florida in 2010 and the Florida State doubles championship in 2009.
The Trojans open their spring season on January 18 at Presbyterian.
