Sun Belt Sends Record Number of Teams to Bowls

NEW ORLEANS – For the first time in the Sun Belt Conference’s 12 years of football the league will be sending four teams to postseason bowl games as selections were finalized Sunday night.

League champions Arkansas State will be playing in the Bowl in Mobile, Alabama on January 6. The Red Wolves will face Kent State which has an 11-2 record on the year. The Red Wolves won the Sun Belt title outright after a 45-0 win over Middle Tennessee Saturday.

WKU will be making its first postseason appearance when the Hilltoppers play Central Michigan in the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl. The Hilltoppers became only the second team in Sun Belt history to have a 3-1 record in regular season non-conference play earlier this season. The game will take place in Detroit on December 26.

Louisiana-Monroe was selected to play in the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl against Ohio. It is the Warhawks first trip to a bowl game and the announcement that they would play in the game came Saturday. ULM will play the Bobcats on December 28 in Shreveport.

Louisiana-Lafayette was selected to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl for the second consecutive year. The Cajuns will play East Carolina on December 22 in New Orleans. The selection of the Cajuns in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl came on November 24.

All of the bowl games featuring Sun Belt teams will be featured on ESPN.
