Accused murderer Suroy Manquel Wheeler was returned to Troy by a prisoner transport company late Tuesday afternoon.
Wheeler waived extradition shortly after he was apprehended with the help of the Oxnard Police Department in California on Oct. 29, two days after the crime he is accused of committing.
Melissa Shipman, 29, was found about 3 p.m. on Oct. 27 in her Troy Villa apartment by a co-worker. She had been shot to death.
Investigators quickly developed information that Wheeler was the suspect and later a tipster called the Pike County Sheriff’s Department with information that Wheeler was in Norwalk, Calif. boarding a Greyhound bus heading to Oxnard, Calif.

Troy Police notified the Oxnard Police Department and a surveillance team was placed outside the local bus stop. Oxnard Police took Wheeler into custody without incident.
Wheeler was questioned by TPD at the police station after his return Tuesday and was expected to be transferred to the Pike County Jail where he will be held on a $100,000 bond.
Although police have not elaborated on the relationship between Wheeler and Shipman, co-wokers at her Troy University Dining Services job recognized Wheeler as Shipman’s boyfriend of a short time.
Shipman worked at Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Trojan Center where friends described her as “energetic” and “full of life.”
