The Red Level Tigers grabbed the lead with 2:57 to in the third quarter, and never looked back to score the win over Goshen Monday night, 71-63.
The Eagles were able to close in on the free-running Tigers a few times down the stretch, but were not able to tie or pull ahead.
“We are not really familiar with each other right now,” said head coach Johnny Mitchell. “We are still learning the system and how one another plays. It is still early in the season and we will continue to get better.”
The Eagles led late in third quarter, but the Tigers went on a 12-3 run to end the stanza and take a lead Goshen could never over come.
Goshen did go away quietly, and JeMarius McIntyre and Deangelo Orum got the Eagles off to a quick start in the fourth quarter.
McIntyre dropped in a floating lay up, and drilled a deep three from the corner on back-to-back possessions. Orum then got a steal and lay up, before McIntyre once again drained a bucket from downtown cut the Tiger lead to 6.
“JerMarius and Denagelo made some big shots for us tonight and kept us in the game,” said Michell. “We need to keep improving and we will be peaking at the perfect time later in the season.”
McIntyre led the Eagles with 19 points, Orum added 15 and Qua Simmons scored 11.
The Goshen girls won a back-and-forth contest against the Red Level Lady Tigers, 40-37. Ivia Pollard led the Eagles with 27 points, Lynze Price added 11 and Jasmine Brunson scored two.
