Under the direction of first year women’s basketball coach Chanda Rigby, Troy picked up its first win of the season in style.

The Trojans defeated Furman 118-96 and set a new school record for shooting percentage (64.3%). Troy’s point total for the game stands third all-time in school history and second since moving to Division I in 1993. It is also the most points scored by an NCAA Division I women’s team this season.

“It is tremendous. It’s emotional,” Rigby said as she fought back tears. “When you coming into a situation like this, you have to see what’s not there, what’s not in front of you. It’s emotional that this early in the season that it has already happened. It gets the team believing in the system.”

Troy (1-2) took a 51-37 lead into halftime, but didn’t lay off the gas in the second half. The Trojans outscored Furman 67-59 in the final 20 minutes. The most points score by the Trojans last season was 66, which they did twice.

Seven Trojans scored in double figures led by Kourtney Coleman and Joanna Harden with 19 each. Coleman also recorded 10 rebounds.

Brooke Bowie scored 17 points off the bench. Britney McCloud added 15, while Ashley Beverly-Kelley chipped in with 11.

The Trojans are averaging 96.7 points per game this season. Last year, UT Martin led the NCAA with an average of 80.1 points per game.
