Boys and Girls Club hosts dinner

Some parents in the United States struggle to put food on the table, let alone luxury cuisine items. But that’s the premise behind a fund-raiser hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Pike and Surrounding Counties.
The Inaugural Steak and Burger Fund-raising Dinner will raise money for the club, but also give children in Pike County an opportunity to dine with community leaders and supporters. Each ticket purchased provides a steak for a child and a burger plate for the purchasing adult.
“When you live in housing, you might not ever get a steak. Parents are barely putting food on a plate for kids,” said Pamela Nealey, chief financial officer for the club.
As part of the program, club children will sit with members of the community at their tables and provide entertainment throughout the evening in the form of song, dance and skits.
The dinner also serves as a time to honor community heroes who have helped the Boys and Girls Club on its way to success. Wanda Moultry, Mary Griffin, Pastors Annie and Willie Blackmon and the late Joe Witherington will all be recognized.
The event will be held at Southside Baptist Church on Nov. 8th. A silent auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $50.
“We all know that a steak and burger don’t cost $50, so while you are helping feed a child, the rest of the money goes to supporting the Boys and Girls Club,” Nealey said.
Sodexo, CGI and Sante Fe have been extremely helpful in putting on the event, Nealey said, along with many others who have already made donations or purchased tables ($400).
Tickets can be purchased by calling the Boys and Girls Club at 770-2582, or by visiting bgcpsc.net. Tickets will also be available at the door.
