Wilkes seeks re-election to school board

Chris Wilkes, current District 6 Board of Education member, has announced he is running for re-election.
Wilkes has served on the Board of Education for six years and said that he is excited about the possibility of re-election and would appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve Pike County.
“Serving on this board is both challenging and rewarding and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the next six years,” Wilkes said. “These are exciting times for our school system.”
A Goshen High School graduate with two children attending Goshen Elementary School, Wilkes said he has a vested interest in making sure the Pike County School System continues to move forward.
Wilkes is proud to have been a part of several ongoing projects at Pike County schools, including the construction of a new basketball arena at Goshen High School and a new art facility at Pike County High School.
“Just a couple of years ago, we were wondering if we would ever be able to do any of these projects,” Wilkes said.
“Like most people, the school system found itself affected by the economic downturn that the entire county faced. While we were not able to begin and do a lot of construction-type projects, we were able to remain stable and financially secure without large layoffs of personnel that affected a lot of other school systems.”
Wilkes believes the current school board is made up of thoughtful, sincere people who have the children of Pike County and the school system’s best interests at heart.
“I am asking that the people of Pike County – and specifically District 6 – help keep the leadership intact for our schools, and re-elect me to serve on the Board of Education for Pike County,” Wilkes said.
