Assistance will be available at the Troy nutrition center at the Colley Senior Complex on Nov. 7, for those who are seeking to choose the 2013 Medicare plan that will be the most financially beneficial.

Hassie Green, nutrition center director, said the help will be free to people on Medicare.

“This is the time of the year for those who are on Medicare to sign up for their prescription medications,” Green said. “There will be someone here at the nutrition center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. to help those who are on Medicare find the prescription plan that is right for them. This will be an opportunity for those on Medicare to find a plan that will save them the most money.”

Green said those who take advantage of this free assistance opportunity should bring their prescription containers and social security, Medicare and health insurance cards and proof of income to see if they may also qualify for extra help to pay for Medicare and drug costs.

“Assistance provided by the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is sponsored by the South Central Alabama Development Commission Area Agency on Agency,” Green said. “Legal assistance is also available to people over the age of 60.”

Those who are unable to attend but need free Medicare or legal assistance may call (334) 671-3990 or 1-800-671-5246.

Green said a large number of people take advantage of this free assistance each year.
