Trunk or Treat this weekend

It’s not quite Halloween, but area children are invited to a Trunk or Treat this weekend sponsored by Dunn’s Chapel AME Church.
The event is being held in connection with the Boys and Girls Club of Pike and Surrounding Counties and the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center.
“This is something that the church can do for Halloween where parents are sure their children are safe, and it’s not so scary an environment,” said Sharon Green, director of the Dunn’s Chapel Youth Department.
The community is invited to participate by decorating the trunks of their vehicles and passing out candy and trinkets to children. Participants need to be in place at the Boys and Girls Club between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Children will begin arriving about 5 p.m.
“We are hoping for a big turnout and that the kids will have fun,” Green said.
In addition to collecting candy, parents can have a photo taken of their child in costume for a small fee. That money will go back into local charities in Pike County.
