Zion Chapel set to host Highland Home

Zion Chapel comes home to the friendly confines of Greene Memorial Stadium in Jack Friday night in a battle against the Highland Home Flying Squadron.

The Rebels bring momentum in to the game after picking up their first win of 2012 last week on the road at Calhoun. Zion fell behind early, but stormed back in the second half to claim a big 38-16 win against the Tigers.

Rebel Head coach Mike Waters believes that when his team plays “their game,” they can contend with anyone on their schedule.

“We want to control the ball and the clock,” said Waters. “When we can control the tempo, we can go toe-to-toe with anyone including Luverne, Elba and whoever.”

The season is getting close to the halfway point, and with that comes injuries.

Zion Chapel has bitten by the injury bug on both offense and defense, and needs a clean game on Friday night in order to have players in condition for a playoff push.

The Rebels and Flying Squadron played one of the more dramatic games of 2011 in Highland Home last season. Zion won 21-20 in overtime, by shutting down the vaunted Squadron rushing attack over the final two quarters.

Highland had 226 yards of offense in the first half, and negative three in the second.

The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 7 wins a piece, with ZCHS winners of three of the last four.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Greene Memorial Stadium in Jack.
