Zion Chapel scored its first win of the season with a big 38-15 win of the Calhoun Tigers on Friday night.

Zion fell behind early 16-15, but came on strong in the second half to pull off the come from behind win.

Head coach Mike Waters said that his team responded well to his halftime speech.

“We challenged them at the half, and they came out in the second half and played well and hard,” said Waters. “We got a stop and then scored. Then got another stop and scored again, and just built on it from there.”

Waters stressed the importance of tackling to his team earlier in the week, and is proud of the job his team did.

“We knew their quarterback would give us some issues,” said Waters. “We were able to contain pretty well.”

Zion broke away from Calhoun late, and got some much needed playing time for some of the younger players on the team.

Statistics were unavailable as of press time, but Waters did single out a certain player for good performances.

“Mickey Cox played really well,” said Waters. “He can play multiple spots, and is a big asset for us.”

The Rebels take on Highland Home next week in a key area game.

“We expect Highland to give us a good challenge,” said Waters. “We need to get some region wins early on, so we don’t have to fight for them down the stretch.”
