Jack Layton Spivey

Jack Layton Spivey age 83, a resident of the Chestnut Grove Community in Jack, Alabama, passed away Monday August 28, 2012 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 1, beginning at 10:00 AM at Chestnut Grove Cemetery with Dr. Dale Morgan officiating. Burial will follow with Hayes Funeral Home of Elba directing.

“Mr. Jack” was born in Tennille, Alabama on January 31, 1929 to Leroy and Alice Louise (Johns) Spivey. After serving honorably in the USAF he married “Bernell” his high school sweetheart. After working for a major agricultural machinery manufacturer for 25 years, he established his own company in 1985 and served as President – every day – until his death. He was a member of Dorcas Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He is survived by his wife Frances Bernell (Tillman) Spivey, sons Marshall (Diana) and Gary, sister Josephine (Hugh) Slappey, brothers Frank (Alice) and John (Phyllis) Spivey. Also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Busch and brother-in-law Robert Busch, Sr.
