A Troy bar is under a 15-day suspension and has received fines totaling $500 stemming from violations that date back to February, according to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
ABC’s Enforcement Division reported their agents and Troy Police officers found 35 underage drinkers, including a 17-year-old, at the 315 Exchange on Three Notch Street in Troy on Feb. 23.
ABC agents initially recommended a 365-day license suspension, or fines that could have totaled $26,250 – $750 for each underage drinker.
Although the suspension and fine are much less than the possible amounts, ABC Lt. Thomas Price said the agency was pleased with the outcome.
“We want to try to work with [the bar owner],” Price said. “We’re not trying to put him out of business. As long as he’s trying to follow the law, we’re going to try to help him along the way.”
The suspension for 315 Exchange began on Saturday and will run for 15 consecutive days, Price said.
In March, two bartenders were also charged in connection with the Feb. 23 incident. They were accused of consuming while serving, a misdemeanor charge.
“We are here to protect underage people,” Price said. “We have to enforce the law.”
