Brundidge United Methodist Church held a dedication service Sunday for the two-acre property that the church recently purchased on North Main Street in Brundidge.
At the conclusion of the Sunday morning worship service, the congregation gathered on the grounds to ask God’s blessing upon the Hope Project, which is the hope of the future for Brundidge UMC and its commitment to the present, said the Rev. Michael Lawler, church pastor.
“The initial plans are to light the property and develop a walking trail around the perimeter and we’ll have park benches placed around the property,” Lawler said. “There will also be a paved area for basketball and other games. It will be a good place for our Sunday school classes to meet when the weather is nice.”
Lawler said plans for the fall and spring include outdoor movies for the family.
“The movies will be either classics or PG movies that the entire family will enjoy,” Lawler said. “We’ll invite the community to bring lawn chairs and enjoy a free movie.”
Eventually, the plans for the church property include the construction of a multi-purpose building.
“Brundidge United Methodist Church did not have any place to grow and we have no green space,” Lawler said.
“When this property became available to us, it offered us a place to grow and also a green space that our young people are already enjoying.”
The new church property is located next to the BB&T bank in the downtown area.
“This is property is just across the street from the church so it is conveniently located for our church activities,” Lawler said. “We are looking forward enjoying this area now and in the future.”
