Troy knocks off Texas, 6-2

Troy defeated Texas 6-2 in the second round of the Dixie X-Play World Series at the Troy Sportsplex.

It was the first game in the tournament for Troy as they received a first round bye. Texas defeated SouthCarolina 3-2 on Saturday.

Troy starting pitcher Hannah Calhoun kept the Texas bat quiet for the four inning she was in the circle. Calhoun allowed one hit and struck out four.

Texas assisted Troy in building a 3-0 lead in the third as the Lonestar State champions walked five batters in the innings. Lydia Harrison singled in the inning for one of Troy’s five hits in the game. Troy would walk 15 times in the game.

Whittaka Starks was 2-for-2 in the game with a single in the first and double in the fifth.

Megan Tillery and Kate Warrick registered Troy’s other hits.

Troy will play the Virginia/Tennessee winner at 8 p.m Sunday night.
