Troy isn’t cocky. They may carry a certain swagger, but it’s not arrogance. It’s experience.
“Everyone of these kids have played in championship games before,” said head coach Derek Wilkes. “They’ve performed at that level before.”
Alabama’s state representative will head to Cleveland, Miss., On Friday to gear up to take on 15 of the Dixie organization’s finest in the O-Zone World Series.
Troy earned its place with a 12-5 win over White Plains, who will also play in the World Series as Alabama’s runner-up, in Fairhope last week.
Troy cruised through the state tournament posting a 5-0 record but Wilkes knows the competition will only get tougher.
“These guys get good competition everyday. We split them up and push them everyday,” Wilkes said. “I think they’ll respond.”
With the recent success of other Troy teams in postseason play, one might think there would be added pressure.
“Maybe on me,” Wilkes said laughingly. “I don’t think they are nervous at all. Once they get on the field, they’re fine.”
Troy will play the South Carolina state champion on Saturday at 6 p.m. All games can be available to view on www.jockjive.com
Members of the Troy team are: Spencer Floyd, Dawson Hamlin, Reed Jinright, Wood Jinright, Ridge Knotts, Juhmir Lampley, Cole Little, Brian Redmon, Hunter Reeves, Carson Tucker, Garrett Tucker, and Graham Wilkes.
