The Pike County Commission received good news at a scheduled meeting Monday night.

The county has been awarded an $11,714 Emergency Management Performance Grant. The money comes as a result of Emergency Management Agency Director Jeanna Barnes obtaining certain certifications.

At the meeting the commission voted to allow Chairman Homer Wright to sign appropriate paperwork to accept the money.

Several county residents were on hand to hear some good news of their own. The council voted to partner with the City of Troy in a paving project that Troy would fund financially and the county would contribute to with in-kind work. The project will see Child’s Road (County Road 7724) paved from U.S. Highway 231 to the north city limit of Troy.

James Powell lives on the road and told the commission he was grateful for their action.

In other road news, County Road 3320 was named Claude Senn Road.

Also at the meeting, the commission voted to approve time off for a county employee as part of the Family Medical Leave Act; to allow the county administrator to advertise the county would be accepting bids as its current security contract is about to expire; to accept new safety policies; and to take part in a joint-bid debris removal project with other counties if a natural disaster were to happen.
