Troy will travel to Hartselle today as they get set to play host Hartselle American in the opening round of the Dixie AA Region II World Series on Saturday.
The team made an unlikely run through the state tournament. After falling in the state opener in Enterprise, Troy blazed a trail through the losers bracket and ultimately won the tournament with a best-of-three series victory over Oxford.
“We were a little rough around the edges heading into district,” head coach David Nelson said. “But after that first loss in state we just kept getting better and better and played really good defence.”
Nelson said he hopes the couple of days off the team received after winning state will help in the World Series.
“They got a chance to enjoy it and rest,” Nelson said. “They’re ready to get back on the field now.”
Troy will play at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
