Ellis appears in court (with video)

Accused Hunter’s Mountain rapist Andre Ellis appeared in court Wednesday regarding theft of property charges stemming from a March 2011 arrest.

Ellis stood before Circuit Judge Jeffery Kelley during a scheduling conference where Kelley advised Ellis he’d reached the cut-off date for a change of plea in relation to accepting a plea recommendation from the prosecution. All pleas after July 18 will be blind pleas. That means if Ellis does decide to change to a plea of guilty, he will be at the mercy of the judge.

Jury selection for Ellis’ theft of property charge is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 8 and the court will not accept a change of plea on that day.

In addition to the theft of property charge, Ellis is also facing two counts of rape, one count of burglary and several charges related to bad checks. He is scheduled to appear before the Grand Jury on July 31 for the other charges and is being held on bonds that total more than $360,000.
