Rain puts damper on tournament game plans

Recreation department across the state were forced to put baseball and softball tournament game plans on hold as summer thundershowers popped up late Tuesday afternoon.

In Troy, the Dixie Debs State Tournament championship game was delayed nearly three hours and a press time had yet to begin though director Dan Smith hoped to play the contest sometime Tuesday night.

In Fairhope, the Troy Dixie O-Zone team had its game rescheduled from Tuesday night. The team will play Southeastern Blue at 11 a.m. On Wednesday morning. Troy will turn around to play its regularly scheduled Wednesday game at either 6 or 8 p.m. depending on a morning win or loss.

The Dixie Ponytails tournament was also affected by the showers and will resume play on Wednesday morning. Troy, the host squad, was eliminated form the tournament on Sunday.

Troy hosted three state tournaments beginning on Saturday. The Dixie Angels Traditional State Tournament concluded on Sunday as Dadeville knocked off Pleasant Grove in the best-of-three series.

The Dixie Ponytails X-Play State Tournament is scheduled to go final on Wednesday while the Debs were expected to finish Tuesday.
