TROY – Dadeville and Pleasant Grove split the first two game of the best-of-three state series.

Game 1: Pleasant Grove 11, Dadeville 1

Pleasant Grove controlled the opener of the series from start to finish knocking off Dadeville 11-1 in three innings.

The victors scored three runs in the third. Laura Cash, Allie Bunn and Lily Johnson all scored while Cash, Johnson and Kalyn Washington had hit in the inning.

Dadeville’s lone run came in the second when India Miller walked and later crossed on Mary Baxley Smith’s single.

Pleasant Grove pounded out eight run in the third and were the beneficiaries of five walk, all consecutive to end the game on the mercy rule.

Hannah Myrick, Gabby Perea and Ayanna Williams all had hits for Pleasant Grove.

For Dadeville, Smith’s single stood as the team’s only hit.

Game 2: Dadeville 18, Pleasant Grove 17

Dadeville made up for its lack of offense with a 18-17 afternoon victory in Game 2.

Pleasant Grove built a 5-0 lead until Dadeville cut their deficit to one in the third. With eight runs in the bottom half and a 13-4 advantage, Pleasant Grove seemed to have the state series all but locked up. Dadeville came out swinging in the fourth with four runs. An explosive 10-run fifth gave Dadeville its first lead of the tournament, 18-13.

Pleasant Grove wouldn’t go down quietly. Four runs in the team’s final at-bat made things interested but Dadeville would hang on for the win.

Despite the high offensive output, the game was highlighted by a defensive play, Pleasant Home’s triple play in the second inning. Pitcher Hannah Myrick caught a Dadeville line drive with the bases loaded. Myrick then tossed over to third baseman Allie Bunn who applied the tag for the second out. Bunn threw to second where Lily Johnson stepped on the base to complete the play.

Tiffany Rice, Leishaua McWhorter, Makya Johnson, and Eunique McKinney all had hits for Dadeville.

For Pleasant Grove, Hannah Myrick, Gabby Perea, and Jillian Gholson had two hits each. Ayanna Williams, Lauryn Cash and Lily Johnson also had hits.

The teams will play Game 3 at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
