After Oxford scored a pair of runs in the second, Troy’s bats were silenced until the fourth where the team scored five runs produced by hits from Sparrow, Adrian Cardwell, DeAndrey Henderson, Brady Huner, and Lee. The big inning extended Troy’s lead to 11-3.

Troy would add a trio of runs in the fifth in trigger the 10-run mercy rule.

“We got off to a good start,” head coach David Nelson said. “We played good defense and swung the bats well.”

Everything seemed to go Troy’s way in Game 2 until the fifth. Trailing 7-4 Oxford blasted a 3-run home run to tie the game. A pair of base hits later, Oxford led 8-7 and that score would stand to force a deciding Game 3 on Thursday.

“Things seemed to be going our way and their kid came up with a big hit,” Nelson said. “He’ll remember that one for a long time. It was a great play.

Nelson said he feels confident his team be ready for Game 3.

Troy and Oxford will play in Enterprise at 10 a.m. today.
