Qualifying for municipal elections has dropped off this week, with no one completing candidacy paperwork since Monday in Troy and Brundidge.

Troy City Clerk Alton Starling said that even though there are only four more days to qualify, he expects there could possibly be a few candidates still trickle in.

“There are some who may want to wait one more weekend and weigh their options,” Starling said.

City officials in Goshen and Banks have yet to report any candidates who have qualified for their August elections.

Brundidge Administrative Assistant Linda Faust said that some potential candidates have picked up packets, but have not actually qualified since Monday.

In Troy, current District 3 Councilman Jason Reeves qualified as a mayoral candidate; incumbent Charlie Dunn qualified in District 1, so did Shelby Tuck; Greg Meeks is hoping to step into the District 2 council seat as his father departs his duties there; Marcus Paramore and Todd Kreis have both qualified for District 3; incumbent Johnny Witherington hopes to be re-elected to the District 4 council spot, but Nancy Scott also wants that seat; and incumbent Wanda Moultry and Dejerilyn Henderson hope to represent District 5.

In Brundidge, incumbent Mayor Jimmy Ramage and Michael Foster both qualified in hopes of representing Brundidge as mayor for the next four years; incumbent Lawrence Bowdin would like to continue on as the District 1 councilmember; Arthur Griffin, incumbent councilmember, qualified for District 2, as did former councilmember Jaine Treadwell; Andrea Bailey, Margaret Ross, Anthony Foster and Terry Casey would like to claim the District 3 spot on the city council; incumbent Cynthia Pearson hopes to continue on as the representative for District 4, but Byron Gaynor also wants that seat; and Steven Coleman, incumbent, is running again for District 5.

Qualifying ends at 5 p.m. on July 17.
