Third person arrested in burglary case

A third person has been arrested in connection with the burglary of an international college student’s apartment last Friday morning.

Deangelo Montel Smith, 20, of Troy, was charged with burglary second degree mid-day Thursday.

Akeem Jamars Walker, 19, of Troy, was charged with burglary second degree and receiving stolen property on June 29. And on July 2, Jeremy Jermaine Swanson, 20, of Troy, was charged with burglary second degree.

No one was injured in the crime that took place on the 800 block of South Brundidge Street shortly before 1 a.m. June 29. Police were called in response to subjects entering the apartment of a Troy University student and taking items.

Troy Police Chief Jimmy Ennis said the victim was able to give a description of a vehicle leaving the scene and a nearby officer stopped the vehicle.

The officer apprehended the driver and three other suspects ran from the vehicle.

Troy Police Sgt. Benny Scarbrough said detectives are still looking for one other suspect.

Walker posted bail on Tuesday. He had a $20,000 bond for the burglary charge and $5,000 for receiving stolen property. Swanson and Smith are each being held on a $20,000 bond.
