VBS is directed by Jennifer Lane and Leslie Irons, and Lane said she is excited about this year.

“The theme this year is ‘Awesome God, Amazing power’,” Lane said. “We want the kids to learn about God’s love for them, also about his power and the control that he can have in their lives if they will just let him take control.”

According to Lane, the children begin their mornings with a worship rally, which features music and singing.

The worship rally was followed by Bible study and then children participated in activities such as crafts, missions, music, and recreation. There were even yummy snacks.

Each day this week the children will learn a different lesson about God’s power of nature and God’s power over circumstance.

The children at the First Baptist Church’s VBS each have their own favorite activity.

“My favorite thing to learn is about the 10 Commandments,” said kindergarten student Campbell Baker. “Because it’s God’s word and I just wish everybody would learn about it.”

Cade Renfroe, a first-grader, said art was his favorite activity because he gets to create things.

Third-grader, Kylee Raynes, said she learned about God and that Bible stories were fun.

The First Baptist Church VBS is scheduled for Monday-Friday this week from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 160 children are enrolled at this year’s VBS.
