23-1.

That’s the record of the Bombers softball team from the Dixie Darlings division since last year, and their one loss came at the beginning of the season of last year.

That’s 23 straight wins, and possibly more to come next year as they swept through the entire season this year, going an astounding 12-0.

Amazingly enough, head coach Dixie Terry’s team didn’t get off to the start that they wanted to whenever she first began coaching the Bombers.

“This our third year with the Bombers, and that first year I don’t even think we won a game.” Terry said.

“Scoring wise we won a couple, but we only had seven players, so it was still considered a forfeit.”

What a difference a year can make though.

“We lost our first game (last year) and won the rest of the way out.”

Thus the streak had begun, and The Bombers continued to dominate throughout the entire season this year.

“Our infield hardly made any mistakes. We were making plays from shortstop and from third.”

Terry also claimed they had a girl named Libby Barnes, who could make throws from third to first consistently, a daunting task for such a young age.

The Bombers were tactically sound defensively. They knew what to do and where to be at when the ball was hit at a certain spot on the field.

“They just played.” Terry said.

“The whole team just moves with the ball when it’s hit.”

It’s easy to see why the Bombers were such a force to be reckoned with not only on the diamond, but in the batters box as well. Their first four players in the lineup were all hitting above .750.

At one point, Terry’s daughter, Alyssa, whose batting average was an eye-popping .935 this year, hit a home run in eight straight games.

As the streak continued through the season, Terry knew that her squad had a giant bulls-eye painted on their backs and that every team was gunning for them.

“Everyone did want to beat us this year, but my girls just stepped up to it. They were confident in each other and they never really got rattled.” Terry said.

Terry is now fulfilling duties as the coach of the Darlings tournament team, and with five of her players featured on the squad, she is looking to make some noise in the tournament.

“If they play like I know they can, then we should do well.” Terry said.

The Bombers roster included: Libby Barnes, Dakota Berry, Alexandria Brantley, Raegan Brown, Emily Bryan, Morgan Bundy, Shemari Dixon, Maggie English, Sara Johnson, Mya Richardson, Keyanna Siler, Alyssa Terry and Annaleese Thomas.
