Good Hope Baptist Church is sending children around the world for vacation Bible school this year, without them even having to leave the comfort of the campus.

The church’s 2012 VBS, titled Amazing Wonders Aviation, lets the children take part in activities based on real world locations, such as Victoria Falls and the Great Barrier Reef under the theme “Amazing God, Awesome Power.”

“There’s lots of music and movement and crafts,” said Beverly Chance, one of Good Hope’s VBS teachers. “The kids love the crafts and have enjoyed learning about places like the Grand Canyon. We’ve had a very good turnout and about 75 kids a night.”

Each night of VBS, which began on Monday and will end tonight, begins in an “airplane hanger” inside the sanctuary where the children get to sing and listen to music.

After the music the children move on to activities such as arts and crafts, Bible studies, stories and lessons where they learn about real life missionaries from around the world.

“I love it,” said Tori Anderson, a fifth-grader from Rehobeth Elementary School. “The music and recreation are some of my favorite parts. We got to learn the ABC’s of being a Christian and a bunch of other things. I come here every year and I always have fun.”

“The crafts and recreation have been really fun,” said Jackson West, a third- grader from Troy Elementary School. “We get to make and build things and watch videos and I like learning about the missionaries and where they get to go. I’m liking everything a lot.”
