Camp Troy set for next week

Camp Troy is Vacation Bible School with a twist.

That’s the way Dwayne Norman, pastor of Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy described VBS at the church.

“Camp Troy (June 11-15) is like Vacation Bible School and summer camp rolled into one,” Norman said. “In the morning, we have VBS and, in the afternoon, we have camp. Camp Troy is a way to learn more about God and the Bible and also a way to have fun with your friends and a place to make new friends. All young people are invited to participate.”

VBS will be from 8:45 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday, with a daily Worship Rally from 9 until 9:30 a.m.

“Kids will then go to their classes and have the chance to learn about God’s amazing power through games, crafts and Bible study with their friends,” Norman said.

Lunch will be served at noon and the lunches will be kid-friendly.

“We have great menus planned – chicken fingers, hotdogs, hamburgers, spaghetti, sub sandwiches and pizza. All the things kids like,” Norman said. “At 12:45, we will transport the kids to the different tracks that they have selected from a list of 12.”

Each of the children will choose five tracks for the week with one being missions.

“Missions is the one track that we ask all the children to participate in. It is important for kids to learn about the needs of others and about doing for those who are less fortunate,” Norman said. “The other four choices are theirs to make and include football, basketball, volleyball, crafts, dance, fishing, art, cooking jewelry, music and cheerleading. There should be tracks of interest to all the kids.”

Camp Troy will conclude at 2:50 p.m. each day.

There is a fee of $10 for the first child in a family and $7 for other children.

Registration may be made online at camptroy.com or registration packets may be picked up at the Bush Memorial Baptist Church office on George Wallace Drive in Troy.
