County homes hit by burglars

Two homes were burglarized in the Henderson community Saturday night and an 89-year-old resident was home at the time of one of the crimes.
According to Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas, the homes were on County Road 2250 less than a mile from each other.
Thomas said both homes were entered after a burglar or burglars broke back bedroom windows.
The first call deputies responded to was about 7:15 a.m. Sunday. A woman awoke to find her window broken and bedlinens disheveled.
“She had gone to sleep in a chair in her living room,” Thomas said. “We suspect the person saw her in the living room and left the house.”
Nothing was taken in that case.
A separate call came in when owners who were checking on their “homeplace” found a busted back bedroom window and costume jewelry missing on Sunday.
Thomas said he believes the homes were targeted because there were no cars in the driveway and the person or people wanted for these crimes thought no one lived in the houses.
“We think it’s somebody that knows the area and travels that road,” Thomas said.
