The Troy City Council approved a change order that will allow for fencing to be constructed around the entire newly-opened extended runway at the Troy Municipal Airport.

“We went out on a Monday after a rainy weekend and four-wheelers had come off the dirt road near the airport,” said Mayor Jimmy Lunsford. “They were just tearing the place up, destroying the grass.”

The Federal Aviation Administration determined they would provide 95 percent of the funding needed to fence the entire boundary of the runway. The cost of the additional fence work will be about $41,500 and increase the cost of airport work by Wiregrass Construction to be about $1,623,000.
