Nell Ruth Jackson Jones, age 91, of Ariton, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Rev. William B. Easterling officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery near Brundidge with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until service time.

Mrs. Jones was born October 12, 1920 in Ariton to the late Adam Harper Jackson and Vassie Carolyn Browning Jackson. She and her late husband lived in Washington, D.C. where he was employed with Marriott Hotels. While there, she worked as a buyer for Sears and Roebuck for ten years. They then lived in Brundidge where they owned and operated the Village Restaurant; they later made Ariton their home. Mrs. Jones worked with Floyd Shirley Ford in Brundidge for nineteen years until her retirement. She published two cook books, giving the proceeds to charity. Mrs. Jones loved to cook and care for other people. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Oscar “Bill” Jones; and three brothers, Henry Jackson, Carroll Jackson, and Harper Jack Jackson.

Survivors include a special sister-in-law, Gloria Jackson of Ozark, and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Ariton Rescue Squad, c/o Ronnie Danner, P. O. Box 244, Ariton, Alabama 36311.
