Charles Henderson girl’s tennis season ends

The Charles Henderson High School girl’s tennis team saw themselves shutout at the sectional tournament at Troy University Tuesday, finishing in fifth place overall.
The girl’s team was only able to field four players in Krishna Patel, Venekia Daniels, Winneka Grubbs and Diamond Pickett, leading to several forfeits in both singles and doubles matches.
In singles play the Trojans opened in the third seed with Patel vs. Greenville High School, falling 10-0.
Daniels was next up on the court in the fourth seed, facing another Greenville player, where she dropped the match 10-2.
The Trojans did not play in the fifth and sixth seeds of the singles matches, and returned later in the afternoon for doubles play.
In the first seed of doubles matches Grubbs and Patel clashed with players from Eufaula High School in what would be the closest Trojan match of the day, a 10-6 loss.
The second doubles seed, and the final outing for the Trojan women for the day, saw a 10-3 loss as Daniels and Pickett took on Eufaula as well.
At eh end of the day Ozark High School claimed the top spot by a wide margin, taking 34 singles points and 24 doubles to finish first overall.
Valley High School was next, taking 18 singles, and will be joining Ozark in the state playoffs later this season.
Closing out the day was Greenville with 21 total points, Eufaula with six and finally the Trojans with none.
The loss in the tournament ends the season for the troubled women’s team, as the boy’s team prepares for their chance in the sectional tournament.
The boy’s will play on Thursday, April 19, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at Troy University with play opening at 8 a.m. and running until all matches have been recorded.
