A Troy man has been charged with a handful of crimes after shoplifting and leading police on a chase from Enterprise to Ozark.
Desmond Terrell Collins, 38, of 341 Aston Ave. in Troy, was arrested for second-degree felony theft, reckless driving, driving with a revoked driver’s license and felony attempt to elude police, according to a statement from the Enterprise Police Department.
Police responded to the Enterprise Walmart about 5:50 p.m. on Thursday in response to a shoplifting. When officers arrived, Collins was already outside the store and leaving in an older model blue Ford Crown Victoria.
The statement from police said Collins refused to stop as they pursued him north on State Hwy. 27 toward Ozark.
As Collins approached the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 231, he was unable to stop his vehicle. His car left the roadway onto some gravel and slid through a stop sign, the statement said.
A late model white Toyota Camry was in the northbound lane and struck the driver’s side of Collins’ car.
Collins wasn’t injured and the driver and passenger of the Camry were treated and released at Dale Medical Center.
The crash is being investigated by the Ozark Police Department.
