Joseph Franklin Walters, Jr.
Joseph Franklin Walters, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 4 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Troy with Rev. David McVay officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation was held Sunday, April 8, 2012 from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Berry Walters; his three children, Elizabeth Walters Hudson (Paul), Ellen Walters Sanders (Steve) and Joseph Franklin Walters, III; grandchildren, William Raymond Hudson, II (Christina), Steven Layton Sanders (Arden), Amy Elizabeth Hudson, Joseph Lucas Sanders (Dana), Chandler Hayes Hudson, Franklin Wyatt Walters, and Brandon Casey Walters; and great-granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Hudson.
Serving as pallbearers were Will Hudson of Montgomery, Chandler Hudson of Troy, William Johnston of Troy, Layton Sanders of Panama City Beach, Florida, Luke Sanders of Troy, and Casey Walters of Troy.
Joe graduated from Marion Military Institute and Auburn University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was also a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Army. He was retired from the United States Postal Service. Joe was a lifelong dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Troy, and was a member of Wesley-McCartha Men’s Sunday School Class.
The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Troy or Beulah Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation of the many acts of kindness extended to Joe and his family.
