Midweek – 3 Things

Been working the high school scene lately but will be at Troy’s practice today so I’ll post any findings later.

1. Softball upset – The softball team knocked off #8 Louisiana-Lafayette, who was undefeated heading into the weekend. Troy did drop the final two games but showed signs of its ability.

Coming into the season, I don’t think head coach Melanie Davis expected freshman Ashley Rainey to be the clear cut ace of the pitching staff but she has turned into just that. Rainey (10-3, 2.21) has been honored as Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week three times this season.

Second baseman Sarah Shields has turned in a solid season thus far offensively batting a team-high .373. Shields struggled at the dish last season hitting just .267.

Here is the story I wrote about the game Troy won.

2. Baseball stumbling – The baseball team has lost 6 of its last 9 and has shown no signs of finding a Sunday starter. The Trojans have won just two weekend series this year (Central Michigan and Bethune-Cookman) including both conference tilts played. Troy has a great opportunity to pick up a couple of midweek victories against rival Jacksonville State and Alabama State.

It’s my blog so I can say it….. WHUP JAX STATE!

3. T-Day this weekend – T-Day is Saturday. Come see the Trojans in action at 2p.m. If you can’t follow me on Twitter @Messenger_Wes for updates. BE THERE WHEN IT HAPPENS!
