After 10 years at the helm, Michael Murphy was relieved of his duties as head women’s basketball coach on Sunday.

The decision was made after a meeting between Murphy and Troy athletic director Steve Dennis.

“I have a lot of respect for Coach Murphy and I would like to thank him for his 10 years of dedication to the University, but we felt that it was the best time for our women’s basketball program to move in a different direction,” Dennis said.  “I can’t thank him enough for his work, class and impact that he has had on so many young lives. I have no doubt that he will have success in the future.”

Murphy’s teams have struggled over the past three seasons, posting a 19-68 record.

Assistants Craig Kennedy and Jennifer Wasson will take over day-to-day operations as the search for a new coach continues.
