JV Trojans sweep Opp behind strong pitching

Charles Henderson High School junior varsity baseball team swept Opp in a doubleheader on Monday.
The Trojans used solid pitching and timely hits to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Charles Henderson won the first game, 3-0, behind a stellar performance by Blake Craft on the mound. Craft tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits. He struck out six while walking two.
John Johnson scored Hunter Baggett on a double in the third inning before Xavius Burden chipped in with a RBI single to give CHHS a 2-0 advantage.
The next inning, Reilly Fox drew a two-out walk then scored on Baggett’s single to cap the scoring.
In the second game, the Trojans fought back from a 2-0 deficit to walk away victorious, 6-3.
Charles Henderson again did its damage in the third and fourth frames.
Kenyatta Jones and Fox were hit by pitches to lead off the third. Baggett made it count with an RBI single to right. Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. One batter later, Burden and Chase Hartley each knocked in a run.
The Trojans struck again with two outs in the fourth when Johnson singled followed by Austin Ingram’s RBI double. Hartley again came through with a RBI single to give Charles Henderson the 6-3 lead.
Burden picked up the win on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings. Burden allowed three runs and struck out four.
The junior varsity Trojans will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Dothan to take on Northview. First pitch is set for 4:30p.m. The contest is scheduled as a doubleheader.
