New Orleans and Mobile might have much more storied Mardi Gras festivities but those cities can’t boast of having events any more fun than the one hosted by the Troy Seniors Foundation.

The Foundation’s Mardi Gras Gala & Ball will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the Cattleman Park south of Troy.

The Mardi Gras Gala is the Troy Senior Foundation’s largest fundraiser and all proceeds benefit the Colley Senior Complex.

“The Troy Senior Foundation/Colley Senior Complex is funded 100 percent from donations and fundraisers,” said Janet Motes, Colley Senior Complex director. “So, the Mardi Gras Gala is extremely important to the continue success of our programs.”

The Gala is a time for friends and neighbors to come together and enjoy a night of fun, food and fellowship.

Jim Bell & the All-Stars will provide the dinner music and Johnny Barron & Waterfall will be the dance band for the evening.

“We have a fantastic event planned and invite everyone to come and celebrate Mardi Gras in a festive way with friends and neighbors,” Motes said. “At the same time, you will be supporting the senior programs at the complex as we strive to reach our goal of continuing to make a difference in the quality of life for our senior adults while embracing their wellness, creativity and independence.”

Individual tickets to the Mardi Gras Gala are $25. Reserved tables for 10 are $500. Corporate Carnival Sponsorships are available for $1,000. Tickets may be purchased at the Colley Senior Complex at 715 Elm Street in Troy or by calling 334-808-8500.

The Troy Senior Foundation/Colley Senior Complex is a community center for senior adults that provides programs that will enhance the lives of the people of the Troy community.

“Our programs are divided into four major categories, health and fitness programs and creative and artistic, general and auxiliary programs,” Motes said. “We have more than 1,800 people who attend our programs each month and we have 125 programs that we provide to the people of our community and the surrounding communities, including Brundidge, Goshen and Luverne.”

Over the past six years, the Troy Senior Foundation/Colley Senior Complex has increased its participation more than 200 percent.

“We have reached out to all seniors in our community and tailored programs around their wishes,” Motes said. “We are extremely proud to offer the majority of our programs at no charge to our members so that anyone who wishes to attend our programs may do so.”

Transportation is provided. Motes said people come to the Colley Senior Complex from other cities because they don’t have a senior adult facility in their communities. “We tailor our programs around our seniors, not just try to do ‘senior programs.’”
