PBOE OKs bonds

The Pike County Board of Education met Monday night without much discussion on agenda items.

The board voted to approve the sale of approximately $6,500,000 of the Pike County Board of Education Capital Outlay Warrants.

Bob Young with the Frazier Lanier Company explained to the board that the group was given an A-1 outstanding credit rating by Moody’s.

Young said the sale would go to “paying off 2003 issues” and the remaining $3.5 million will be placed into a construction account.

Other items approved by the board were:

Godwin-Jones was named school architect.

Contracts with vendors for e-rate services were extended.

Affidavit of Alabama Immigration Compliance was approved.

Scholar’s Bowl and Science Bowl teams will participate in regional bowls with funding help from the board.

An after-school tutoring program at Pike County High School will run from Jan. 17 to March 23 for juniors and seniors to prepare for the graduation exam.

Selesta Tucker was hired as Graduation Coach for Goshen High School for the remainder of the school year.

Ashley Gallimore was hired for a Math position at Pike County High School for the remainder of the school year.

The resignation of Josh Peters, Social Science teacher at Pike County High School will become effective on Jan. 20.

The resignation of Rodney Dollar as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Pike County High School is effective immediately and his transfer to Banks School as a physical education teacher for the remainder of the school year was also approved.

Fred Holland was named Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Pike County High School, effective Jan. 17.

Lisa Hayes received approval for catastrophic leave.

One day of sick leave was waived for Mary Evans.

Maternity leave was approved for Amy Stubblefield and Nikki Johnson.
