Evelyn Gilbert Harris

Evelyn Gilbert Harris passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012.  Services for Mrs. Harris will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church in Troy on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. George Gilchrist, Jr. officiating and George F. Grubbs Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Mrs. Evelyn Gilbert Harris was born April 2, 1939 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Alma Gilbert and John Diggs.  She was raised and educated in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  After becoming a young adult, she moved to Newark, New Jersey where she trained and worked as a Nurse’s Assistant and later as a Certified Bus Driver.

In Newark, she also met and married the love of her life, Morris D. Harris, and they spent many fun filled years together.  After retirement, she relocated with her husband to his home town, Troy.  Troy became her home until the Lord called her to her true home.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Morris D. Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Tammie Renee and Curtis Lee Gooding; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nakima Kairi and Micheal Caldwell; great-grandchildren, Zhana Renee and Chad Anthony Caldwell; cousins, James Gilbert, Pauline Drake, and Katy Woods; and a host of other relatives and friends.
