Band students at Charles Henderson middle and high schools spent time during their Christmas vacations giving back to their community.
Chelsea Singleton, secretary of the CHHS band, said that the community is very important to the band students at both schools.

“We look to our community for support and we feel that, if our community is willing to give to us, then we should be willing to and wanting to give back to the community,” Singleton said.

On Dec. 15, the CHMS eighth-grade band students played Christmas songs for the residents at the Troy Health & Rehabilitation Center. On December 20, members of the CHHS band visited the Troy Adult Day Care Center. “At the Adult Day Care Center, we gave Christmas ornaments that we had made to the participants and helped them string the ornaments,” Singleton said. “We had snacks with the participants and they seemed to really have a good time and we did, too.”

The CHHS band students also went caroling at the Level Line Apartments near Troy Elementary School. “We thought that these were ways that we could show our appreciation to the community for its support,” Singleton said. “And we want to continue being more of a part of the community. We plan to visit the adult day care center again and, this time, we’ll take our instruments with us and play for them.”
