The Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant will be a first for the area and should generate a lot of interest and excitement among the senior and general population.
An April 21, 2012, date has been set for the Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University.
Janet Motes, director of the Colley Senior Complex in Troy, said representatives from the Ms. Senior Alabama office had requested that Pike County host a pageant for area seniors.
“There is a Ms. Senior pageant in the Wiregrass area and one in Chilton County but there is not one anywhere in between,” Motes said. “So, Pike County would be an ideal location.”
Motes said a Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant Committee has been formed to share the theme of Ms. Senior Alabama and Ms. Senior America by enriching the lives of senior women and allowing them to share their experience, wisdom and interests with others.
“Today’s women who have reached the ‘Age of Elegance’ remain active through all walks of life,” Motes said. “They enjoy better health, financial comfort and respect.
“The Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant gives women of maturity the opportunity to demonstrate their successful aging through intelligence, wisdom, talent and poise.”
The pageant has four categories: Interview, philosophy of life, evening gown and talent. The winner will go on to compete in the Mrs. Senior Alabama Pageant in Hanceville in June.
To compete in the 2012 Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant, seniors must be a resident of Pike County for the last six months and be 60 years of age by Jan. 1, 2012, and have a talent presentation.
Contestants must be available for speaking or performing and for the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant Workshop in the spring and the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant in June.
The Ms. Senior Pike County committee members are Sylvia Davis, Hassie Green, Janet Motes, Maxine Hollis, Reatha Griffin, Isabell Boyd and Debra Gibson.
Registration packets for the Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant are available at the Colley Senior Complex, the Lillian D. Green Nutrition Center and A New Beginning for You, all in Troy; the Goshen Senior Center in Goshen and the Robert E. Barr Nutrition Center at Brundidge Station in Brundidge.
